The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has pledged to build on its achievements in 2024 by enhancing transparency and providing crowd-sourced coverage maps to improve service delivery in 2025.
This assurance was given by the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman (CEO/EVC) of the NCC, Aminu Maida, in a series of tweets shared on Thursday via the official X handle of the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
Maida revealed that the coverage maps, which was released toward the end of the year 2024, will allow mobile network users to identify the most efficient network in their area using actual performance data. He added that this initiative aims to foster healthier competition among Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
“Now that we have laid some of the necessary foundations, we are going to see a lot more transparency to help drive competition and service delivery amongst operators,” Maida stated.
The EVC further emphasized that the maps would eliminate guesswork for users by enabling them to access accurate network performance data directly from the NCC’s website.
Reflecting on the Commission’s accomplishments in 2024, Maida highlighted the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s National Identification Number-SIM linkage policy and the designation of NCC infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) through a Presidential Order on November 6.
Maida expressed optimism about leveraging past gains to achieve even greater milestones in the telecommunications sector.
