Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
The actor reportedly died on Sunday, with the news of his passing confirmed by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during a live video.
Overcome with emotion, Kira broke down in tears as she repeatedly said, “My daddy is dead,” confirming the heartbreaking news to viewers.
The development comes just five days after the actor’s family dismissed an earlier report claiming that he had died.
The initial report had sparked widespread reactions among fans and colleagues, but the family subsequently described it as false and maintained that the veteran actor was alive.
His death has now triggered an outpouring of grief across Nollywood, with fans and fellow entertainers mourning one of the industry’s respected veterans.
Taiwo Hassan was widely recognised for his contributions to Yoruba-language cinema and his decades-long career in the Nigerian film industry. His work earned him the enduring nickname Ogogo, under which he became a familiar figure to generations of Nollywood audiences.
The actor’s reported battle with cancer adds another painful chapter to the story, as tributes are expected to continue pouring in from colleagues, friends and admirers.
His death marks a significant loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly the Yoruba film sector, where he established himself as a prominent actor and filmmaker.
