Why Has El-Rufai Filed Fresh ₦10bn Suit Against ICPC?

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has filed a fresh ₦10 billion lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging that the agency denied his family access to him while he was in custody.

In the suit, El-Rufai alleges that his wife, Aichatou Asabe, and his son, Abba El-Rufai, were repeatedly prevented from visiting him during his detention.

The former governor is seeking ₦10 billion in damages over what he described as the alleged denial of his family’s right to access him while in custody.

The suit adds another legal dimension to El-Rufai’s ongoing dispute with the anti-corruption agency, with the former governor challenging the manner in which he has been treated during the proceedings.

El-Rufai’s latest legal action comes amid continued scrutiny of his dealings with the ICPC and allegations involving his administration.

The former governor has maintained his opposition to the actions taken against him, while the ICPC has continued to pursue its investigations.

The fresh ₦10 billion claim is now set to test whether the court will uphold El-Rufai’s allegations concerning the alleged restrictions placed on his family’s access to him.
