Rivers Crisis: Wike Accuses Fubara of Disregarding Court Judgment, Fueling Violence

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pointed fingers at Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of fueling violence in the state by disregarding a court judgment.

Wike made these comments during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Tuesday, emphasizing that Fubara’s actions led to the breakdown of law and order in Rivers State.

“I’m not solely blaming the Governor, but he is fundamentally responsible for the unrest in the state,” Wike stated.

He further clarified that those chanting “No Wike, No Rivers” were not under his influence, and he was in Abuja, not Rivers, on the day of the election.

Wike highlighted his own adherence to the rule of law, contrasting it with Fubara’s alleged disobedience.
“You must obey the judgment of the court. You must not take the law into your own hands. The moment you don’t obey court judgment, you are inviting anarchy, you are inviting violence,” Wike emphasized

This development follows reports of post-election violence in Rivers State, where five people were killed, and three local government secretariats were set ablaze.

The violence was allegedly sparked by political thugs affiliated with the previous administration, protesting the local government election results.
