Empowerment Call: Falana Urges Girls, Women to Take Their Place

By Boluwatife Calfos

At the forefront of women’s empowerment, Funmi Falana, SAN, Director of Women Empowerment and Legal Aid, has made a passionate call to action, encouraging girls and women nationwide to claim their rightful positions in society and shatter outdated stereotypes

Speaking at the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice’s banquet honoring new Senior Advocates of Ekiti origin, Falana encouraged women to strive for excellence, citing her own recognition and advocating women’s rights.

The event was part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second anniversary celebration. The Senior Advocates of Nigeria who were honored recipients at the events were: Funmi Falana, SAN, Chief Lawrence Falade, Mrs. Folasade Alli, Mr. Adeoye Babatunde, Emmanuel Olayiwola, Ayoola Ajayi, Mrs. Oluronke Adeyemi, Mr. Adeola Adedipe

Falana described the honor conferred upon her and other senior advocate as a call to action for younger individuals especially women to aspire to the strive for nothing but the best.

In her words, “My focus has been fighting for women’s rights and defending the oppressed people of Nigeria. That has been my work, and I am sure I received this honour as a result of my contribution to the development of women’s law”

“Women are not where they are supposed to be, which is why those of us who have reached this level serve as examples that the notion of a woman’s place being the kitchen is outdated.”

“A woman can reach the top of her career if she puts in hard work. So, this is a lesson for all women to rise and take their rightful place in society, recognising they are as important as their male counterparts.”
“There is no limit for women wherever they find themselves. They should refuse to be marginalised and reject discrimination,” she added.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji later presented awards to eight senior advocates, congratulating them on their recognition, which he attributed to their hard work.
