Delta LG Chairman Provides Free Medication To Curb Cholera Spread

To curb the spread of the cholera outbreak in Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, the Chairman, Rawlings Andaye, has distributed free medications to all primary healthcare centers within the council.

On Friday, the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Adaka Amameniye, oversaw the distribution of drugs allocated to Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre and other health facilities in the creek. He emphasized that the Local Government provided the medications at no cost to all primary healthcare centers in the area.

He stated that the council chairman recognized the urgency of preventing the spread of the disease and took swift action even before any cases were recorded in the LGA. He further emphasized that the chairman directed all healthcare facilities to provide free treatment to patients in the event of any emergency related to the disease.

“Our dedicated council chairman has taken both preventive and precautionary measures by ensuring that primary healthcare centers across the council area are well-equipped with necessary medications, even before any case was reported,” he said.

He advised residents to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest primary healthcare facility in their communities if they experience any symptoms or emergencies related to the disease.

The Chief Matron of Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre, Eunice Edonkumoh, who is the most senior healthcare official in the LGA, expressed gratitude to the council chairman upon receiving the medications.

She commended his swift response and noted that the distribution of free drugs is ongoing across various healthcare facilities in the communities through designated health officers.

“Cholera is a communicable disease primarily caused by contaminated water and food,” she explained, adding that cases have already been recorded in several communities, including Esanma, Ogriagbene, Akugbene, Kpakiama, and others within the council area.

My plea and advice to the people of Bomadi Local Government Area and surrounding areas is to maintain proper hygiene and take necessary precautions to prevent contracting the disease.

“Some key preventive measures against cholera include boiling water before drinking, ensuring food is served and eaten hot, washing hands before and after meals, washing fruits before consumption, and thoroughly washing hands after using the toilet.”
